While RFoG offers great potential for increased capacities for FTTx, there are some challenges introduced through this technology. The RF transmissions by two cable modems at the same time generate two simultaneous optical node transmissions. If the two ONU’s have identical wavelengths, optical beat interference (OBI) can be generated at the receiver. Ideally one subscriber would transmit when no one else is transmitting. However in reality, there is always more than one home required to transmit at the same time. The upstream wavelengths of 2 or more transmitters have to be very close or identical to create OBI.
Cable’s Value Proposition for Small Cells
Small Cells, Big Impact
The much-anticipated small-cell era has clearly begun in earnest. With the rapid growth of smartphones and mobile data traffic, and the emergence of 4G/LTE (and soon 5G) wireless networks, mobile network operators (MNOs) are scrambling to install compact, environmental-friendly femto, pico and micro cells throughout their footprints to support that growth, boost their coverage and capacity, and maintain or even enhance subscriber quality of service (QoS) without breaking the bank or building new cell towers and finer lines.

Solving Wireless Backhaul “Router to Tower” Issues
How CWDM Can Eliminate Cell Backhaul Bandwith Bottlenecks
One of the most urgent issues facing broadband wireline network operators concerns the dramatic acceleration of mobile data traffic growth. Driven by the explosion of smart phones and mobile computing and bolstered by burgeoning wireless bandwidth from 4G, LTE and WiMax deployments, the capacities of existing wireless backhaul links around the globe are becoming overwhelmed. Is this avalanche of mobile traffic leaving your network vulnerable? Is your company facing first-mile fiber challenges? Please explore the following article on Lindsay Broadband’s CWDM Solution To Wireless Backhaul “Router to Tower” Issues. Let our TOUGH TECHNOLOGY meet the demands of even your TOUGHEST CUSTOMER.
